Can we produce 303 stainless steel long screws?

There are many grades of stainless steel, such as 201, 303, 302, 304, 312, 316, etc. Some brands are suitable for cold heading and some for machining. So 303 stainless steel can we produce long screws?

Sometimes after we receive the customer’s drawings, we can see that some customers will mark 303 stainless steel or 304 stainless steel in the material column. In the production of screws, 303 stainless steel is generally used for machining, while 304 stainless steel is more suitable for cold heading production. If the material 303 is used for the production of long screws, we need to check the shape and size of the long screws, and whether it is suitable for the production with this material. If not, we need to explain to the customer why the material 303 cannot be used for the production.

So how do we determine that? One is to see if the groove of long screws can be produced by turning it, and if the groove can only be formed by cold heading. Two is to see whether the head shape of the screw can be produced by the way of machining, or only cold heading production. Three is to see the design of the whole screw, if the whole is completed, can the car processing.

Whether to use the material 303 for the production of long screws, we also need to consider whether the cost of cold heading production will be cheaper, whether the delivery date can meet the requirements, whether the tolerance can meet the requirements, etc.
